Youths demonstrated against the demolition of their homes in Beita at the border of the Addis Ababa and Sululta districts and engaged in combat with law enforcement.
According to Addis Maleda, who reported hearing gunshots in the area, she arrived at the spot and assessed the circumstances. The issue occurred close to the Frencay Gurara Kidane Mehret, which marks the boundary between the Oromia region and the Addis Abeba municipal authority.
When the Addis Maleda reporter arrived on the scene, the crowd began yelling, “Our house will not be demolished.”
The police used tear gas and gunshots to disperse the youngsters, especially after they began to protest with sticks and stones, but the youths resisted.
In addition to the federal police, three patrols of the defense army commandos have also arrived at the scene. Several federal police forces have currently reached the area.
The government security personnel present at the scene engaged in close combat.
The young protesters said, “The house we have lived in for more than 20 years won’t be destroyed. Addis Maleda revealed that in addition to the several homes that have been painted red and are set to be razed, there are also villas.
